In its beginning, the Gordon Bennet Cup was not really popular among manufacturers, racing drivers and the public in general. The most thrilling motor racing events in those days simply were the City-to-City races. In these first three years of its existence, the Gordon Bennett Cup mostly was combined with one of the City-to-City races.
These are the1900 Paris – Lyon, the 1901 Paris – Bordeaux course and the 1902 Paris – Innsbruck, that was part of the longer Paris-Vienna city-to-city race.
Therefore in contrast to other motor racing events, relatively few articles on these first three Gordon Bennett years can be found. These three early years of the Gordon Bennett cup races have been combined in this one sub-category.
