The Savannah Grand Prizes were organized in 1908, 1910 and 1911. The racecourse most certainly was one of the most beautiful of all American courses. The course itself was one with the best and newest techniques; part of the course had a Macadam surface. The very first race in 1908 encountered so much enthusiasm, that a follwoing automatically was expected. Due to financial issues however, the nex would take place in 1910, while becoming even a larger succes than the earlier one.
   From 1911 on, the Grand Prize and the Vanderbilt Cup were intertwined with each other. As these would be the last races on the Savannah race course, both these  events are discussed here in this category. All further Grand Prizes and Vanderbilts will be dealt with in „Grand Prize + Vanderbilt 1912-1916“.
