Voitures sans Chevaux, Troisième Journée – Le Petit Journal – 22 July 1894

In this article, the results of the last elimination trials are briefly discussed. Logically, then there were not much vehicles left now, with the exception of Mrs. Vacheron and de Bourmont. Both were allowed to participate. Second part of the report shows the list with the twenty-one participants for the concours sans chevaux 1894. (Translation included at the end).

   Départ à 8 heures précises du boulevard Maillot ;
   Arrivée à Mantes à midi ;
   Départ de Mantes à 1 h. 1/2 ;
   Arrivée à Rouen vers 8 heures.
   Itinéraire : Neuilly, Courbevoie, Nanterre.
Nota.
   Ensuite Chatou Le Pecq, Saint-Germain, Poissy, Triel (28kil.), Vaux, Meulan, Mantes (51 kil.), Rosny, Bonnières, Vernon (70 kil.), Gaillon, Le Vaudreuil (100 kil.), Pont-de-l’Arche, Port-Saint-Ouen et Rouen (126 kil.).

HORSELESS CARRIAGES
Day Three. – Last elimination round
   Most of the latecomers who had asked not to take part in the elimination round until yesterday were apparently unable to get ready despite the extra time.
   Only two of them, Mr Vacheron (no. 24), petroleum, and Mr de Bourmont (no. 53), petroleum, made it to the meeting point on boulevard Maillot.
   The preparatory test took place on the road from Paris to Poissy via Saint-Germain (outward journey), with a return journey via Maisons – Laffitte (approximately 50 kilometres). Both competitors were admitted in turn.
——————
   Here are a few examples of the competing cars, based on shots taken by M. Girard, photographer in Mantes, over the last few days, as the route unfolded. More will be published tomorrow. It’s unfortunate that there wasn’t a photographer as knowledgeable as the one in Mantes at each of the end points of the first races. It’s true that the same photographer will be photographing everyone today on the road to Rouen.

Itinerary
Today, Sunday, journey from Paris to Rouen (126 kilometres), the definitive theme of the competition.
   Gathering from 7 a.m. to 7.45 a.m. at the Porte Maillot.
   Departure at 8 a.m. sharp from boulevard Maillot;
   Arrival in Mantes at midday;
   Departure from Mantes at 1 h. 1/2 ;
   Arrival in Rouen around 8 a.m.
   Route: Neuilly, Courbevoie, Nanterre.
Note: To avoid the abominable pothole that the Ponts et Chaussées call the „national road from Paris to Cherbourg“ and which crosses the Bergères roundabout, the Boule roundabout and the whole of Nanterre, cars will go to Nanterre on the „Paris to Le Havre“ road.
   Instead of going to Nanterre to the top, they will go down.
   At the monument de la Défense, instead of turning left, they will turn right to cross the western line on the Garenne-Bezons bridge.
   Five minutes later, turn sharp left to join the route de Chatou at the bottom of Nanterre.
Nanterre to the route de Chatou via the excellent tarmac road from Colombes;
   Then Chatou Le Pecq, Saint-Germain, Poissy, Triel (28 kilometres), Vaux, Meulan, Mantes (51 kilometres), Rosny, Bonnières, Vernon (70 kilometres), Gaillon, Le Vaudreuil (100 kilometres), Pont-de-l’Arche, Port-Saint-Ouen and Rouen (126 kilometres).
   To see the bulk of the army pass by, i.e. the cars which, while travelling at a good speed, will stop from time to time to allow the members of the jury to examine them by occupying them successively, it will suffice to calculate this march at the rate of 12 kilometres 500 per hour.
