Man & Machine

In the era, coverd in this website, the most important men-women that made the entire time as vivid and alive as possible, as well as the cars, the engines and the technology will be discussed. 

The two defining chapters will be Man and Machin.
Man will incorporate:
   The Drivers and Mechanics, making all those racing events happen.
   Before the war, these were among others: madame Camille Du Gast. Drivers participating in the city-to-city races and the Godon Bennett races, such as Emile Levassor, Fernand Charon, Henri Fournier, Fernand Gabriel, Victor Héméry, Camille Jenatzy and Léon Théry. The Grand Prix races saw drivers such as ferenc szist, Felipe Nazarro, George Boillot, Jules Goux and Christian Lautenschlager.
   The postwar era will encounter names such as the Americans Jimmy Murphy, Tommy Milton.
   The Inventors that have made these ingeneous devices back then and tlaid the base for nowaday’s applications. People such as Ernest Henry, father of the 1912 Peugeot 4-valve ohc engine or Harry Miller with his engines reigning over Indianapolis in the postwar era.
   The Journalists of the many magazines and even newspapers, that have made all that happened in those days liable to us, more than a century ago. Well known French journalists are Charles Faroux and Paul Faure; Paul Dumas and Paul Meyan. American journalists are W. F. Bradley, the US correspondent in Europe. P. M. Heldt and J. Edward Schipper are technically very experienced, not ot forget Darwin S. hatch and McCall-White. All publishing many articles on engine specifics and their development.

The Machine chapter contains:
   Cars & Engines in the Pre-war era are divided in two time regoins. Technical descriptions and even details are highlighted of different race cars and -engines, mostly presented by magazines prior to a racing event. Well known named such as the continental Panhard, Renault and Richard-Brasier or even the American Locomobile, Peerless, Stutz or Frontenac.
   The part Cars & Engines Post-war covers the straight-8 engines, as well as V-12 engines.
   Car Technology and Engine Technology cover the development of specific parts improving the performance of racing cars and -engines. Items such as pneumatic tyres, detachable rims (jantes amovibles), detachable (steel) wheels, as well as front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive; four-wheel brakes and hydraulic brakes or even independent suspensions. As for engines, the in 1912 developed hemi-head, 4-valve dohc engine formed the precursor for many more later engines. The Miller and Duesenberg engines after the war dominated US racing scene for years. Supercharging came on stage directly after the Great War, resulting from wartime aeroplane engine developments.
